The aims of this foundation are multi faceted:
1. To provide medical assistance, or other forms of assistance to those who would otherwise suffer unnecessarily;
2. To provide scholarships for educational opportunities to deserving candidates, which would not otherwise be available;
3. To show the value of compassion and the willingness to assist those less privileged;
4. To get leverage in The Foundations endeavors, by requesting those we help to become role models by adopting higher values, and becoming contributors in their own society;
5. To have donors experience personal growth through the life changing effects of meaningful contribution;
6. To assist other non-profit organizations to achieve their goals using the marketing principles taught by our founder;
7. To show other individuals, schools, groups and organizations how to duplicate what we do.
Thailand - Land Of Smiles
Darrell Berg-Smith observes free urgent surgery in Northern Thailand.
Why we do this in Thailand and the region.....
Thailand and the surrounding countries of Myanmar, Laos and Cambodia are developing nations. Of these, Thailand is by far the wealthiest nation.
Thailand gives considerable medical care to its neighboring citizens for free. Nevertheless there is considerable poverty, in all these countries.
We are in the process of developing The Foundations contributions to include all these countries.
The way we are able to assist would not be able to be done in wealthy Western Nations. This is explained in 'Our Philosophy' section.
Bangkok has recently taken over from Singapore as the hub for medical care in South East Asia. Wealthy people from all over the world come to Bangkok for premium
medical care. We can pay for surgery in an exceptional world-class private hospital in Bangkok, by a world-renowned surgeon, from England or USA, for a mere
fraction of the cost of surgery in those countries. For example, premium quality dental braces can be undertaken here for about one eighth the cost of the same
appliances in USA or Australia. Please read our projects section for more examples.
In addition, we believe the following best sums up our passion for this region:
"Thailand can offer the world some amazing psychological techniques to improve the human condition and to increase intercultural
communication effectiveness. The Thai ability to display gentleness and respect for all human beings can certainly improve our lives. The freedom from aggravation,
the avoidance of criticism and conflict, the rejection of harsh words, the ability to find value in the moment, and the importance of friendship can make the world a
more pleasant and safer place......Learning the Thai values will help you develop the harmonious relationships necessary for success in today's global environment."
Thomas J Knutson, Ph D,
Professor of Communication Studies at California State University,
Sacramento.
Please enjoy the stories in this website and share them with friends and associates. We have some major announcements to be made in 2007,
and we would like you to return for regular updates. Hopefully you may like to undertake a similar project some time.
In the meantime we leave you with this:
The Value of a Smile
It enriches those who receive,
without impoverishing those who give.
It happens in a flash
And the memory of it sometimes lasts forever.
None are so rich they can get along without it,
and none so poor that they are not richer for its benefits.
It creates happiness in the home,
fosters goodwill in a business,
and it is the countersign of friends.
It is rest to the weary, daylight to the discouraged,
sunshine to the sad,
and natures best antidote for trouble.
Yet it cannot be bought, begged, borrowed or stolen,
for it is something that is no earthly good to anyone
'till it is given away.
And if someone is too tired or discouraged or angry
to give you a smile.....
We ask you to leave yours.
For nobody needs a smile so much as those
who have none left to give.
